Our New PA

A while back we kicked off a donations drive for a new PA system after I rather unfortunately…blew ours up (I think Fight Philosophy was the culprit). Thanks to the legend of Jim Adams for providing the first PA.

So, I kicked off the donations drive, and we had some awesome donations from Kuno Woudt, Jared Mehle, James Daws, Rowan Lewis, Roberts Web Design, Lise Ryde, and Alvin Ao. Things were looking good but we were still a little way off from having enough funds to buy the PA, and with our first live show coming up, things were getting a little tight.

We then had a tremendously generous offer from a guy called Ernie Rogers who runs a t-shirt company called Ragga Wear. I knew Ernie from a friend who put me in touch with him to do some t-shirts for an event I organize, and he donated a stack of free shirts to the event. Well, Ernie saw me post something online about us looking for a PA, and called me up to say that he had a few PA systems in his garage and he would be happy to give us one.

I was astonished and Ernie’s reason was “it is the least I can do, I believe in what you guys are trying to do”. I continued to be astonished, and frankly still am.

Lo and behold, today this baby arrived:

I cannot sufficiently express my incredible gratitude to not only Ernie for his incredible donation, but also to Kuno Woudt, Jared Mehle, James Daws, Rowan Lewis, Roberts Web Design, Lise Ryde, and Alvin Ao for putting their money where their beliefs are too.

Rest assured, this baby is going to be having free metal raging through it, good and loud. \m/

Announcing the ‘Nightmares By Design’ Album Cover

Over the last few months I have been working with Sonia Bass, an awesome artist and illustrator from New Zealand, to put together a concept for the new Nightmares By Design album cover. I sent over Sonia a bunch of themes that I wanted to see, and she sent back some ideas and we started iterating on it. Sonia did the art for my previous band Seraphidian‘s album ‘Caged’, so I knew she could knock out something stunning.

Well, she did, and here it is – the official Nightmares By Design album cover:

The album will feature eleven tracks that weigh in at around 54minutes of music:

  • Foretold Revelation
  • Drill Down
  • Politicold
  • Fight Philosophy
  • Fallout
  • Forgotten Heroes
  • The Blackening
  • They Prey
  • End Of Days
  • Machines Of War
  • Repent

We are getting close, and remember, you will be able to download the full album and share it with your friends freely. Rock and roll! \m/

Ben Gibbs was the first other musician to join Severed Fifth, and under recommendation from Chris Kontos (ex Machine Head/Testament/Konkhra, now with Attitude Adjustment). Since he joined Ben has been providing a solid percussive machine, thumping double-bass drums, and plenty of interesting technique. In this short video interview we talk about Ben’s background, his fave [...]

Donations Drive: Severed Fifth Urgently Needs a PA

Like any band, Severed Fifth needs some particular tools for us to make an awesome live experience, a live experience that begins on 1st Oct in Livermore, CA. At the Severed Fifth rehearsal studio in Oakland we have all the drums, guitars, amps, mics, and other elements that we need to rehearse for our live show, but we have struggled when it comes to a PA. The PA is the amp that the vocals and the kick drums go into.

When we started rehearsing, Jim (our guitarist) leant us a PA system he picked up on the cheap for $60 or so ages ago, but it has had a bunch of problems: tweeters not working, not very loud, humming and buzzing sounds, electrical shocks, and tonight it finally died. As such we are without a PA system, and as it slowly died it got quieter and quiter, making it hard for me to sing and I felt myself on the verge of blowing my voice out.

So, we need a new PA. This is where you folks come in: we are going to need your help to generate some money to pay for the PA system. We think we can pick up a decent system for the rehearsal space for $500-$600, and while we have some funds in the Severed Fifth account, we are going to need some more cash to get it. The challenge is: we need it pretty quick, as we have a gig coming up and currently no way of hearing my vocals and Ben’s kick drums at rehearsal.

So, we would like to ask the Severed Fifth community to donate whatever you can afford to help buy us a PA that we can use to rehearse for our live shows and take our Free Culture music out on the road.

Fortunately, donating is simple, anyone with a credit card can do it. To show our thanks, everyone who donates between now and when we generate enough money to buy the PA will be mentioned in a blog entry on severedfifth.com and will be mentioned on one of our Severed Fifth TV shows that I do.

Thanks, everyone!
