I am pleased to announce some details of the debut Severed Fifth album and more details on the recording of the album.
Firstly, the new album will be titled Denied By Reign; and initially the album will consist of eight tracks, weighing in at around 42 minutes of audio. These track titles can now be officially announced as:
- Metric Of Hate
- Beating Heart
- Dollar Plague
- The Lake
- Edge Of Design
- Take The Test
- War
- Enslaved By Pain
The album covers a wide range of topical content covering both real and fictional issues. The lyrical content explores these subjects, with differing perspectives, often making strong statements but also asking questions of our assumptions and perspectives. This includes topics such as war, terrorist, poverty, religion, consumerism, and more; I think the lyrical content should be interested to read and listen to.
Preparation of the album is largely complete – the demo tracks are done, the lyrics are written, my guitars have been in for a total re-fit and setup (quite literally taking them entirely apart, cleaning, setting up and putting them back together), the drums are set up, the amps are ready, I have 20 cans of Red Bull in my fridge and I am chomping at the bit to get in there and not only make an album I am proud of, but to make an album that will hopefully contribute to the ongoing rise of free culture. I am also extremely excited about playing these songs live – there is a real feel to them – lots of big, fat, chuggy headbanging riffs, lots of quick-fire vocals, thundering double-bass drums and ripping solos. I can’t wait to get it all fired up.
Recording of the album begins on Saturday and there is a lot to get done in a short period of time. This includes recording drums, rhythm guitars, lead guitars, acoustic guitars, bass, growling/shouting/singing vocals, overlays, synth elements, atmospheric content, mixing, over-dubbing, mastering and then getting the content ready to go online. It will all be recorded in my home studio where everything is set up and good to go. It is going to be a fun five days, but it is going to be an exhausting and stressful five days.
Importantly, I want to keep you all updated with progress of the recording of the album as it is recorded. As such, keep your eyes on severedfifth.com for daily updates and photos from the recording sessions. I will be regularly writing about what is going on as I get the different elements of the record in place. I will also be twittering about progress of the album, which you can see here.
Its happening folks, and thanks for all your support.

Will the master tracks be available for people to re-mix your tracks? If good enough would you include the power-metal/trip-hop/boomtown remix on the “album”?
I am curious as to what kind of FOSS/OSS applications you are using in your recording/production process.
From perspectives of pre, post, and or eventual production.
Is it all live straight to tape or a DAW.
If so what applications best suited your needs.
If not, why?
